Corgi TY85907 Great British Classics TX1 Taxi - London 2012
Corgi are proud to introduce the first and only die-cast collection to
be inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which we
hope becomes a lasting legacy of a monumental moment in sporting
history. Whether it is a high end, authentically detailed Limited
Edition piece or the start of a multi piece ‘collect them all’ series,
there is something here for everyone.
The revolutionary TX1 modeled here was designed, developed and built in
1997. It’s iconic redecessor, the Austin FX3 was produced between 1948
(the year of the last Olympics to be hosted in London) and 1959. The
famous ‘black cab’ is universally recognised as a symbol of London. The
name taxi derives from the taximeter, the instrument which measures the
distance travelled or the time taken, thus allowing an accurate fare to
be determined. This device was invented in 1891 by Wilhelm Bruhn.
